2020 Fair Cancelled
June 3, 2020
It is with great sadness, disappointment and disbelief that the CCF has to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Fair.
The decision comes down to a few key points, including the fact that we received notice late last night that Badger State has decided to cancel their 2020 season. Also, as it stands now, no festivals or gatherings of over 50 people until Stage 5; we are currently in Stage 3!
The Minnesota State Fair sums it up best: "We need to make decisions now based upon what we know today, not how we hope things will be in August."" Do we hope things change? YES. But we don’t know what those changes would be or when they would even happen.
Financially, we had to make the decision now, before we have some rather large bills coming due. There is NO ONE more disappointed than our volunteers who put countless hours into this event every year, but it’s also those volunteers that we need to think about in this decision.
As another fair has posted: "Even if the Governor makes huge changes and opens up the state for big events, the guidelines that our volunteers would have to follow would be an exhaustive list and essentially a HUGE liability for any of those individuals to have to undertake!"
Lastly, as a County Fair that receives some funding through the Department of Ag, we can’t hold a fair against Governor's orders and expect to receive any sort of reimbursement from the state. We aren’t willing to gamble future years of the CCF for just one year. We have always said that we make decisions based on what’s BEST FOR THE FAIR, and no matter what we HOPE happens in two months, we have to make decisions based on the here and now.
We thank you for your understanding and continued support, and we will see you in 2021!
